A place for non-work-related flimflam, faffing, hodge-podge or jibber-jabber you’d prefer to keep out of more focused work-related channels.

because of automation ?

no, just seems like Sam Altman's prediction of toxic politics due to missionaries vs mercenaries is playing out. E.g. long-time meta people on a paltry $10m/year end up leading a team with some OpenAI blow-ins on $30m+/yr leading to resentment.

yeah, seems it is office politics

Anyone got connection to Google Cloud? A few months back, I tried BigQuery and got a huge bill in a few hours. I don’t think it makes sense. It is like a clickbait. First I googled and it showed me a marketplace page with a list of links to
Try Out (on the page) and it didn’t notify about costs but just volume of data it is going to query, which ended up >30k in a few hours. I heard there is the similar case with the same dataset, and finally the 58k USD got waived. By the way, I searched the definition of clickbait and Canada Competition Act, such marketing practices are prohibited. Users should be notified about the approximate costs explicitly. It was a huge surprise to me, and I filed a support case right away. I am going to fight back to the end.Nirav6 months ago

ghtkn (pronounced GH-Token) is a CLI to create GitHub App User Access Tokens for secure local development.
Are you still using Personal Access Tokens (PATs) or GitHub CLI OAuth tokens stored on your local machine?
These long-lived tokens pose significant security risks:
• Indefinite or months-long validity - A leaked token remains dangerous for extended periods,
• Broad permissions - Often configured with wide access for convenience
• Difficult to rotate - Manual management leads to tokens being used far longer than they should
ghtkn generates 8-hour User Access Tokens from GitHub Apps using Device Flow - a fundamentally more secure approach:
• Short-lived tokens - Only 8 hours validity minimizes damage from any potential leak
• No secrets required - Only needs a Client ID (which isn't secret), no Private Keys or Client Secrets
• User-attributed actions - Operations are performed as you, not as an app
• Automatic token management - Integrates with OS keychains for secure storage and reuse
ghtkn allows you to manage multiple GitHub Apps through configuration files and securely store tokens using Windows Credential Manager, macOS Keychain, or GNOME Keyring.

Quick question for everyone: Would you use an app that shows you all the health benefits you're already paying for but not using?
I wanted to get some feedback about an app concept I'm planning to build. I'm exploring an app that helps people actually USE the health benefits they're already paying for. Most of us lose hundreds (sometimes thousands) every year on unused dental cleanings, eye exams, therapy sessions, etc. because we simply don't know what's covered or where to go.
Here's how it would work:
• No need to upload insurance cards or share personal info - just answer simple questions like ZIP code, plan provider, or employer
• See all covered benefits in plain English
• Find in-network providers near you with one tap
• Get reminders before benefits expire ("Your free dental cleaning expires next month!")
• See exactly how much money you're leaving on the table
Would this be helpful for you? Drop a number in the comments:
1️⃣ Yes, I'd definitely use this
2️⃣ Maybe, depends on execution
3️⃣ Not really interested
4️⃣ I already manage my benefits well
Just genuinely trying to see if this could help people save money on healthcare they've already paid for. Your feedback means a lot! 🙏

Hey folks! We’re exploring the use of LLMs for incident troubleshooting. Is anyone currently using an LLM to automatically search for metrics, logs, and traces and surface initial findings? If so, how effective is it in practice? Thanks!
